Sometimes, I Dream Awake.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a wonderful shoot for a wonderful family with a wonderful child. His name is Dominic and he's about to turn one! I've known the family for quite some time now, and it's always a pleasure when I get to visit with them, so when the time came for them to need a photographer, I was more than willing to step in! I sincerely believe that this kid is gonna be a charmer. He was laughing and smiling so much… up until we decided to go to the park. After that, he was pretty much done. All in all though, I say it was an excellent shoot and I look forward to doing the shots at his first birthday luau!

Well, here's some of my favorite shots from that day::

Aboulia

Thank God.

Finally on Vacation.

It has been a while since I've written here. Quite a bit has happened. I had a misadventure whilst attempting to reach a corn maze, had to replace my alternator, and most importantly of all, got a new lens! I ended up buying a Lensbaby 2.0 with a plastic optic. It's pretty much the coolest thing ever!

Right now, I'm sitting outside of an apartment on the Oregon Coast watching the waves crash on the rough basalt. It's very pleasant.

Songs From the Revelator Collection

The Puyallup Fair, in my opinion, is the epitome of modern Americana. You get people from all different walks of life coming and paying exorbitant amounts of money to ride dubiously safe attractions and eat the artery clogging deliciousness that is "fair food." And while you are inundated at the wonder this country has grown to be, that's when they try to sell you stuff. Now, my point of this little rant is to say that I understand the occasional compulsive buy (i.e. a pack of gum or mints at the supermarket) but, hot tubs? Seriously? You're going to try to sell me a hot tub. Or better yet, a "Gazebo-enclosed Spa?" Wow.. I never knew that the type of people who go to fairs have $9000 to spare. Maybe they should switch places with the food places so the people could have the money left to consider the proposition. Going back to ridiculous compulsive buys, I understand that the selling of hot tubs and fireplaces have long been a mainstay at state fairs, but I think they took it a little too far this year. Whilst perusing the tents of people selling their wares, I discovered something. Land. People were selling land at the Puyallup State Fair. Hmm... That's how I plan on buying property, from a guy in a tent at a carnival. Interesting.

I feel as if I'm spending too much time on this. Moving on. My day at the fair was a day well spent. I got to spend my last day of summer vacation with my favorite couple! We walked around, saw a man in a cowboy hat do tricks with little dogs (somewhat strange), saw the Weird Al exhibit that had some awesome celebrity cameo's (Tim Heidecker, Eric Werheim, Patton Oswalt, Fabio, etc...), got tackle hugged by the Muttin' Bustin' mascot "Buster", and got hit on by a Samoan woman. All in all a good day. Saw the last few minutes of a Puyallup High School Football game, then drove home. However, I did reallize something that day. Being third wheel with such a happy couple all day made me kind of realize how lonely I get sometimes. It kinda sucks. I mean, don't get me wrong, I absolutely love these two, but it's just... I don't know.. It just sucks sometimes. And I guess listening to Gillian Welch all night doesn't really help either. oh well. I'm going home.

Goodnight.

"Where there is love there is life." - Mohandas Gandhi

Well, the past two days have been kind of busy/long. On Friday, I just kind of hung out, my buddy Jake came over to the house I'm house-sitting. We grilled steak (which was excellent) and then watched Death at a Funeral (which is a great movie). Then on Saturday, I woke up, cleaned a little, and then went to work! Work wasn't very fun at all.... My co-worker never showed up.. it was pretty weak, but oh well, I had This Will Destroy You and my Gillian Welch playlist to get me through it. (Odd mix I know) Oh well, I think I'm going to go get ready for work now!
I miss you.
Love.

The secret of my success is that at an early age I discovered I was not God." - Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

Nothing super exciting happened today, I woke up, jumped in the hot tub (that's right, hot tub), and went to the my work meeting. For those of you who don't really know me, you should know that I don't really enjoy going to these meetings particularly... But I move on. Towards the end of it, I was getting kind of agitated from the inane questions two of my coworkers kept asking about things they did 2 years ago that had absolutely no relavence to anything we had been talking about, so when it got to be my turn to talk, you can imagine I was a little obnoxious...

Boss: "Jacob, do you have any questions?"

Jacob: *sly look* "Yes, I do in fact have a question... What is, in your opinion, the cause of the dinosaur's extinction?"

Boss: *skeptical look, yet slightly amused* "Well, I believe an asteroid struck the earth and caused nuclear winter."

Jacob: "Indeed..."

I would have gone on, but I really wanted to get out of there... Oh well. After the meeting I went down and said my last goodbye's to Nate as this was his last day. He has certainly been a very good friend these two years he's been here. After this and all, I met Rivey and we went to Kinza Teriyaki for lunch (my favorite Teriyaki joint this side of the bridge) then we went to the house and chilled for a while. We ended up watching A Scanner Darkly, which is always great. Well, it's eleven fourty-two and I believe I will go to bed now. Good night world, I will leave you with some notes I took at a meeting a while ago so you can get the idea of the way I view said meetings::

“You never lose by loving. You always lose by holding back.” - Barbara De Angelis

So nothing very exciting happened today. I woke up, went to work, worked, then went to the house that I'm house-sitting and now that is where I am now! Woohoo... I guess. Tomorrow, I look forward to finally getting my Costco card, going to a meeting, then seeing my old buddy Rivey! Should be totally awesome! Yep.. Today also had some sadness to it. At the church where I work, the youth department gets a different intern every two years. Today, one of the best interns we've ever had was leaving his position because his contract was up. I mean, sure he's on to bigger and better things, and even though it may be selfish, I do wish he would stick around. He always makes my day a little bit better. I began to think about why we have such selfish attachments to people, but I'm pretty tired, so I believe I'll hit the hay. Maybe in another blog.. yes... Oh, didn't get much editing done today, however, I was perusing my old flickr and my old photobucket account and I found some old pics that make me happy when I see them (top is me, bottom two are my dad)::

“One today is worth two tomorrows.” - Ben Franklin

So, here we are. I had never really planned on starting a blog,
but it seems as if there were other plans for me. Interesting. Well, today was a very relaxing day, mainly because I didn't have to work today. Always a plus. Lately, I've been getting a little backlogged with pictures to process. I know I should enjoy the editing process more, but it's just so tedious. I got through a few though, not as many as I would have liked, but it's all good. No hurry here. These aren't for anything special, just for fun really. I would edit some, then go outside and work on the chair I'm refinishing. (I'm refinishing a late 60's early 70's wooden school chair.) All in all, not a bad day! Found some awesome Justin Vernon B-Sides floating around online, so I snagged those, and I was pleased. Also, I was stoked that the new season of Sons of Anarchy picked up today, and brother, it looks exciting to say the least! Well, I guess I'll wrap it up now. Goodnight world!

PS. Here's some pictures I edited for the day plus one that just makes me happy whenever I see it::
